The
Blood (continued)
Includes:
The Blood Offering
I
The Blood of
Covenant I
The Blood of Jesus
Covenants Sealed with Blood
There are seven blood
ratified covenants that relate to the offerings .
To make this easier to
understand I will use:
brown ink
for those things of
the old testament that were
types
green for Jesus'
fulfillment
lavender for ongoing or
future fulfillment
1.The
Blood Covenant of Faith
Then Abram believed
the Lord; and He counted it to him as righteousness. Gen.15:6
The
Lord promised Abram an Heir and when Abram believed the Lord, He
added to the promise the land that he stood on. This blood sacrifice was
also a supernatural burnt offering.
When it was time to posses
the land, Joshua and Caleb gave a testimony of faith yet it took a
40 years judgement before the Israelites could enter the promised land
that was promised to Abram in Gen.15:6
The New Testament
fulfillment is Romans 10:8,9 "The word is near you; it is in your mouth
and in your heart,"that is, the word of faith that we are
proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth,"Jesus is Lord" and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved. "
Let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of faith, Hebrews 12:1b,2a
The ongoing fulfillment
for those called to the faith -walk is Hebrews 11:33
"who by faith
conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises,"
This relates to the sin
offering.
2.The
Blood Covenant of Relationship with God
And I will establish My
covenant between Me and you
(Abram) and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an
everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after
you. Gen.17:7 This was sealed by circumcision.
Jeremiah prophesied in 31:33
of a "new covenant" relationship;
"I will put my law within
them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and
they shall be My people."
Because the new covenant was
made with the blood of Jesus, it became everlasting, as it was established
by two eternal things; His Word and the eternal blood.
The large eternal
fulfillment is recorded with Jesus praying in John 17:21 "that all of
them (believers) may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in
you.
May they also be in us
so that the world may believe that you have sent me".
This fulfills the Burnt
Offering sacrifice
representing Jesus as
the bread of life and our communion with God. Our communion with each
other is represented by
the meal offering
that went with this sacrifice.
3. The
Blood Covenant of Passover
When God sees the blood
applied,
His judgements
will pass over you.
"And the blood shall be a
sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I
will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when
I strike the land of Egypt. " Ex12:13
This particular
plague was the plague of "death of the firstborn".
The New Testament tells us
that; "Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,
through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness , because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed. Rom 3:24-25
Rom 5;9 Much more then,
having now been justified by His blood,
we shall be saved from
wrath through
Him.
This fulfills the Trespass
Offering
representing our walk and
confession of sin.
4. The
Blood Covenant of Freedom
As for you also, because
of the blood of My covenant with you, I have set your prisoners free
from the waterless pit. Return to the stronghold of the hope, oh
prisoners. Zec. 9:11,12
The New Testament
fulfillment is recorded in Romans 8:1&2. Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ
Jesus the law of the Spirit of Life set me free from
the law of sin and death.
We read in John 11:25,26 "I
(Jesus) am the resurrection and the life (zoe);
he who believes in Me shall
live even if he dies,
and everyone who lives and
believes in Me shall never die. "
The yet future
fulfillment is spoken of in Romans 8:19
"The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be
revealed. 20. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its
own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
21. that the creation
itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into
the glorious freedom of the children of God."
This relates to the sin
offering
5. The
Blood Covenant of Obedience
"All that the Lord has
spoken (the ordinances) we will do, and we will be obedient."
Ex 24:7 Moses sealed this by sprinkling the people with the blood of the
burnt offering and the peace offering. Immediately after this the
leadership of Israel saw God, and Moses went under the glory cloud on Mt.
Sinai.
The New Testament
fulfillment of this is 2 John 1:6 " And this is love: that we walk in
obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his
command is that you walk in love."
Maybe then His glory will
cover us!
This relates to the Burnt
Offering (purification) and the Peace Offering (voluntary participation).
6. The
Eternal Covenant
This
contains the previous 5 covenants and was ratified by the blood of
Jesus. Below is the Old Testament prophecy of the Eternal (also called
new) Covenant instituted by Jesus.
Jeremiah 31:31
"Behold,
days are coming," declares The Lord, "when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
1."I will
put my law in their minds
2. and
write it on their hearts.
Therefore if any man is
in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things passed
away; behold, new
things have come." 2 Cor. 5:17
3. I will
be their God and
4. they
will be My people
5. they
will all know Me from the least to the greatest
6. I will
forgive their wickedness
7. I will
remember their sins no more.
For those God foreknew he
also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that He
might be the firstborn among many brothers. And whom He predestined,
these he also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and
whom He justified, these He also glorified. Rom.8:29
(6) Jesus said, "Drink from
it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which
is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. Matt 26:28
(7) How much more, then,
will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself
unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to
death, so that we may serve the living God ! Hebrews 9:14
This fulfills the sin,
burnt, and trespass offerings
7.
The Kingly Priesthood
This
was also ratified by the blood of Jesus, when they dressed Him up in
purple robes and beat the crown of thorns into His head.
Now the God of Peace, who
brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood
of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord. Heb 13:20
"Worthy art Thou to take
the book, and to break its seals;
For
Thou wast slain, and didst purchase for God with thy blood
Men,
from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
And Thou didst make them
to be a kingdom and priests to our God;
And
they will reign upon the earth.
Rev.5:9,10
We will be reigning
priests because of the death and resurrection of Jesus who is now on the
throne.
This fulfills the
Atonement offering made by the high priest
