Revelation 21: 19-21
"The foundations of the
wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first
foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the
fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh
chrysolite, the eight beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the
eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were
twelve pearls: each individual gate was of a pearl. And the street of the
city was pure gold, like transparent glass".
These
foundations are a beautiful picture of a proper belief system. Everyone
has,or is forming a belief system, though we often are not even conscious
of it. Our families, schooling, values, knowledge, reasoning, and
religions all contribute to it. Often our system is shaken, and many are
thrust into looking for what is "real". John 8:32 tells us that there is
an absolute truth and when you know it, it will set you free! That
particular promise was spoken by Jesus to those who believed on Him. There
was also a condition to be met. The condition is that you must continue in
His word to be a disciple. The result will be knowing truth and becoming
free.
John 8: 31,32
Then Jesus said to those
Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples
indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
As you
explore some of the foundational truths remember that the foundation is of
stone overlaid with gems. If you collect gems of revelation and truth, and
put them on the wrong foundation (belief system), you will never be set
free in the truth.
I (Jesus) am the Way, the
Truth and the life.
Ephesians 2: 20 tells us that the foundation is the apostles and prophets,
and that the Lord Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone.
If Jesus
Christ is the chief cornerstone of your foundation, then you will be part
of the building of the eternal Kingdom of God.
Ephesians
2: 19-22
Now, therefore, you are no
longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and
members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of
the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief
cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into
a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a
dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Just as
a precious stone must be mined, (separated from the common), so these
gemstone foundations which follow, must be carefully explored, studied,
and polished, as they are laid into the core of our being.
(Hebrews
6: 1,2)
