Truth
Jesus is named Truth.
Truth seems to be the main quality of His
life.
.
I saw
heaven open and there before me was a white horse,
whose rider is called
Faithful and True.
Rev.19:11.
A few verses later this same rider
is called the Word of God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
This next verse shows us that "true" is
His very nature; and that we can know and partake of that nature.
And we know that the
Son of God has come, and has given us understanding,
in order that we might
know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true,
in His son Jesus
Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 1John 5:20
The Father is named
the Supreme God of truth.
God the Father called Himself the
Elohyim (supreme God) of amen (truth) in Isaiah 65:16.
Because he who is
blessed in the earth shall be blessed by the God of truth:
And he who swears in
the earth shall swear by the God of truth;
Because the former
troubles are forgotten,
And because they are
hidden from my sight!
In the Song of Moses (De 32:3-4), Moses
begins to extol God's name in a thrilling passage using this same word
amen translated as truth or faithful.
For
I proclaim the name of the LORD;
Ascribe greatness to
our God !
The Rock ! His work is
perfect,
For all His ways are
just;
A God of truth (amen)
and without injustice,
Righteous and upright
is He..
The Holy Spirit is the
Spirit of truth.
Jesus promises His disciples the Spirit
of truth in John 14:16-17.
"And I will ask the
Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you
forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot
receive."
1John 5:7 tells us:
And it is the Spirit
that bears witness,
because the Spirit
is the truth.
(not concealing).
I think that we
have established that "truth"
is the very nature
of the Godhead.
My Questions
These questions fill my mind:
How can we define or grasp something that
is God's nature?
Is it something totally foreign to us?
Is truth something we can know? to be?
to experience? to become?
Is it something for us to partake
of?
Is it something to be achieved?
Is truth something imparted to us?
Can we know truth and reject it?
I'm not promising to answer all of these
questions, because I don't think that I can; but perhaps the Holy Spirit
will come along side as the "Helper" and cause it to happen!
Next we are going to look at a few
aspects of truth. This is by no means exhaustive.
Truth is realized
through Jesus Christ.
For the Law was given
through Moses;
grace and truth
were realized through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
I am the way, the truth,
and the life;
no one comes to the
Father but through Me. Jn 14:6
Jesus says this is the
reason He was born.
"For this I
have been born, and for this I have come into the world,
to bear witness to the
truth.
Everyone who is of the
truth hears My voice.
" John 18:37
Jesus was hated for
speaking about truth.
His harshest words
were for those who rejected truth.
For saying;
"You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."
the religious leaders took issue with Him
over the word free.
Jesus had this to say to them;
"You are of your father
the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father.
He was a murderer from the
beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no
truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie he speaks from his own nature;
for he is a liar, and the father of lies." John 8:44
In verse 37 He tells them the reason they
desire to kill Him.
"I know that you are
Abraham's offspring: yet you seek to kill Me because
My word has no
place in you".
We see
that truth is connected to the Word.
Look at this:
The
sum of Thy word is truth.
Ps 119:160
As Jesus prays to the Father for the
disciples, He says:
Sanctify them in the
truth. Thy word is truth. Jn 17:17
Christ is established as "The Word of
God" in John 1:1 Later in verse 14 we read:
"And the Word became
flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only
begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Now let's go back to John 8:31 for even
more insight to the
connection between truth and word.
"If you abide in
My word,
then you are truly disciples of Mine:
and you shall know the
truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Staying in the Word becomes the
qualification for knowing truth and becoming free.
No, staying in the Word does not mean
reading the Bible constantly. Remember how "the Word" became flesh?
Staying in the Word means staying in Jesus!
Jesus explains further in verse 43 why
many do not understand or believe.
"It is because you cannot
hear My word." In verse 47
of John 8, Jesus says;
"He who is of God hears
the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you
are not of God."
Right now
you
better sit up and make sure that you are
"of God".
You have no hope of knowing truth unless
you are in the Kingdom of God.

Knowing the truth
--yet preferring the lie.
The results of preferring a lie, is that
God gives them over in the lusts of their hearts,
to impurity, that their bodies might be
dishonored among them. Rom 1:24
For they exchanged the
truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather
than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen Romans 1:25
Homosexuality is the result of the
rejection of truth. But that is only the first step downward.
The next step is that God gives them over to a depraved mind. If you are
interested in the attributes of a depraved mind read Romans 1:28-32.
But there is more in this scripture. It
tells us just what the "lie" is.
It is worshiping (serving) the
creature (ktisis ,-- original formation, the building, the creation)
instead of the Creator.
Facts about Truth
1. Justice is based
upon truth.
The judgements of the Lord
are true; they are righteous altogether. Ps 19:9
For the wrath of God is
revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
Romans 1:18
These are the things that
you should do: speak the truth to one another;
judge with truth
and a judgement (verdict, formal decree) for peace in your
gates. Zec.8:16
2. Truth must be
obeyed, not just known.
This warning is for those that know the
truth.
For those who are
selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey
unrighteousness, there is stored up for them wrath and indignation. Romans
2:8
3. Truth is
represented by unleavened bread.
Clean out the leaven so
that you may be a new lump, just as you are unleavened.
For Christ our Passover
also has been sacrificed. Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with
old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice, and wickedness, but with the
unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1Cor 5:7-8
In the Passover feast, the roasted Lamb
was served with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Jesus our Lamb is
served with sincerity and truth! When we eat His flesh (the bread of the
communion sacrament) representing the reality of spiritually eating Him,
we are eating "truth".
4. Truth is a
qualification for:
a.
Holiness, O
Lord, who may abide in Thy tent?
Who may dwell on Thy
holy hill?
He who walks with integrity, and works
righteousness,
And
speaks truth in his heart. Psalm 15:1-2
b. knowing and
abiding in Him,
2Joh 1:2
c. worshiping
Him, Joh 4:24, Ps 145:18
d. spiritual
clothing.
Eph 6:14
(The Righteous need a girdle
of truth as part of his armor.)
After taking a look at every reference
to Truth in the scripture,
I have come to the outstanding conclusion
that:
Truth
is the foundation of the Kingdom of God !
It is
exhibited in His government
(Ps 119:151;
in His judgements
(Ps
96:13; Ro 2:2)
in His
word
(Joh 17:19);
in His works
(Ps 111:7,8: Da 4:37)
Lets take a look at those questions now.
1. How can we know the nature of God
itself?
We perceive it, in and through
Jesus Christ; since He exemplified it in the physical
world through His recorded words and
actions. He stayed true to His calling and
purpose in life and death. That is
"truth" manifested in the earthly realm..
2. Is truth something totally foreign to
us?
No, not to those in Jesus Christ.
Yes, to those who are perishing.
I believe that 1John 5:20 answers
questions 3,4,5 & 6, once we understand
that "truth" is not something
separate from God himself.
3. Is truth something we can know? to
be? to experience? to become?
4. Is it something for us to partake
of?
5. Is it something to be achieved?
6. Is truth something imparted to us?
And we know that the
Son of God has come, and has given us understanding,
in order that we might
know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true,
in His son Jesus
Christ.
This is the true God and eternal life. 1John 5:20
He is Truth, and we are in Him.
7. Can we know truth and reject it?
yes, read Romans 1
Is truth objective? yes.. --It
exists outside of us.....
Is truth subjective? yes---It
exists inside God, part of His very nature,
and hence inside of us, if
we are in Him.
Lord, let me know
truth as revealed in You.
Lord, let
me love truth. It is the very desire of my heart.
Lord, let me understand truth,
That I might know the true God and
eternal life. |
